Easy

For this adventure, from Savage Gulf State Park's East Trailhead, enjoy an easy hike on the 4 miles of the Savage Loop trail, out to its junction with the South Rim Trail.  The initial access trail, just over one mile inlength, brings you to the intersection with the Savage Loop.  You may choose either direction; both will return you here.

However, if you wish to explore more, turn left to take the South Rim Trail about one-half mile further to see Savage Falls.  After starting along the South Rim Trail, you’ll cross a cable trail bridge over Savage Creek. About a half mile out along the South Rim Trail, you’ll come to Savage Falls, a compact but beautiful waterfall with a scenic plunge pool. In the springtime, this area is filled with blooming rhododendron.  Also be sure to check out the Savage Creek Cascade, just upstream from the falls, which is especially beautiful in wetter weather.  At Savage Falls and the Savage Creek Cascade, remember: Rocks that look black are often slippery!  Watch your footing carefully.

Return the way you came, following the South Rim Trail back to its junction with the Savage Loop trail; turn right [twice] to return to the Savage Gulf East Trailhead.
