Difficult
Horsepound Falls is named for its location, a remote place said to be named for where Confederate forces hid their horses during the Civil War. During late March and early April, on the trail to Horsepound Falls, you will be rewarded with a spectacular array wildflowers.
Access this adventure from the Savage Gulf South Trailhead, taking the Collins Access Trail one half-mile to its descent down the bluff. Watch for the Collins Gulf Trail junction on the left, halfway down the bluff. Once on the CGT, after a short rock scramble, you'll come to a large rock amphiteater and Suter Falls. Cross the metal bridge below the falls and continue 1-3/4 miles to the short spur trail to Horsepound Falls, on your right. Return to the Savage Gulf South Trailhead by retracing your steps. Be sure to turn right (uphill) at the junction of the Collins Gulf and Collins Access Trail. NOTE: There is no swimming at Horsepound Falls.
