Wildflowers, Hiking, and Naturalists Return to the Cumberland Plateau for Trails & Trilliums April 10–12
Three-day event celebrating the region’s remarkable biodiversity through guided hikes, educational workshops, and presentations led by expert naturalists exploring the Plateau during peak wildflower season.
Spring wildflowers will soon blanket the forests of Tennessee’s South Cumberland Plateau, and hikers, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts will gather April 10–12, 2026 for the annual Trails & Trilliums Naturalist Rally at the historic Beersheba Springs Assembly. The three-day event celebrates the region’s remarkable biodiversity through guided hikes, educational workshops, and presentations led by expert naturalists exploring the Plateau during peak wildflower season.
Hosted by Friends of South Cumberland, Trails & Trilliums invites participants to experience one of Tennessee’s most scenic outdoor regions through dozens of guided hikes, interpretive walks and
educational programs. The weekend provides opportunities for visitors of all experience levels to learn about native plants, wildlife, and the unique ecology of the Cumberland Plateau.
The South Cumberland Plateau is one of Tennessee’s most biologically rich landscapes, where hundreds of native wildflowers emerge each spring across forest floors, sandstone bluffs, and creekvalleys. Trails & Trilliums offers a rare opportunity to experience this seasonal bloom alongside expert naturalists while exploring some of the most beautiful hiking areas in the state.
A highlight of the weekend will be a keynote presentation by acclaimed biologist and author David Haskell, whose work explores the connections between plants, ecosystems, and human life. His upcoming book, “How Flowers Made Our World,” examines the profound influence flowering plants have had on life on Earth.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can choose from experiences ranging from relaxed wildflower walks to more adventurous hikes. Additional festival activities include educational workshops led by naturalists and a native plant sale featuring species suited to local gardens.
Headquartered at the historic Beersheba Springs Assembly, the event provides a unique setting to celebrate spring on the Cumberland Plateau. Registration is now open, and many hikes fill quickly.
